Well everyone, in this page, you will be able to find all those little tips and tricks and product fixes
that we come up with on our own.  This page will really thrive if you the reader, send them to me
as you come up with them.  The address to send them to is

Remember Flight Scenery's excellent Flight Zone 01 Rhode Island scenery that they came out with
a while back? Remember how sad and depressed we all were when we found out that it was not
compatible with FS X? I fixed it!  (At least Temporarily) Just follow these steps below and by the
way - the proof is in the pictures! Take a look below at KSFZ, North Central State, Pawtucket, RI.
Well, actually it's in Lincoln, but don't ask me why they say Pawtucket in the simulator......
I'm sure we all remembered that at first, when we opened the simulator, that the trees that showed
around the area were basically white blocks all pointed together.  Well, not any more my friends.
Here's the steps you need to follow in order to fix that little mess....

1.  Install Flight Zone 1 into FS X's main folder as you would have with FS 2004.
2.  Go to the Add-on scenery folder.
3.  Go to the FlightZone01_SC folder and open it.
4.  Highlight anything that ends in a "tree" .bgl, such as sfz-treesA.bgl for example.
5.  Back up these files first!!!!! Right click on them and send them to "My Documents"
6.  Delete these files after doing so.
7. Convert the sfzhangars01 texture to DXT 3 in image tool. Go to Image/Format/DXT 3
8. There you go! You're all set! Enjoy Flight Zone 01 in FS X!
I'm not sure if this is the same with the other release of Flight Scenery, their Portland series, but
you can feel free to try it.  Please email me if you have any problems with this process, but they
should work fine if you follow it step by step!
Aircraft Viewer Fix
You know, I don’t know why, but it seems as though that Microsoft does some quirky things with
it’s configuration file on purpose. Do they want to see just how good we are with tweaking the sim
to get it just right? Do they have an eye on our computers hoping to hire the next one that can make
the sim behave just like an absolute dream? I doubt it.  Every version comes out that we need to add
one or two things to the configuration file, and make it work better.
Well, I managed to fix something on Microsoft Flight Simulators configuration file.  Remember
before that when we would install downloaded planes, all of a sudden the screen would be white
instead of the back ground and image of the aircraft showing? Well, I found a work around with
that.  Basically what you want to do is the following to fix this. Don’t bother updating your drivers
because it won’t do any good. This has to do with the Configuration file.
Go to Documents and Settings, and go to the Application Data folder and find the Microsoft folder.
You will want to send a back up to your documents of the Configuration file (Just in Case) and then
delete the file. You can then start up simulator again, and it will rebuild the configuration back to it’s
default settings. What happens? Notice the planes are now in the window for previewing, and you
can see them now as you should be.
If you tweaked your FSX config a lot, you can go back and just cut and paste the entries you made
from your back up. There you have it! You’ve just fixed a long time error of the configuration file
with FS X. Not sure if will work with FS 9, But you can feel free to give it a try.
How to Get USA Roads To work with FS X

Remember our favorite original road add-on, USA Roads that bought us literally every
surface street and major highway to the US for Flight Simulator 2004? Well I have found a way to
get that add-on to work in FS X!  Yes, that’s right, you can now start flying the FS X skies with
USA Roads again!  Hope you still have the download, if not, here’s the things you’re going to need
to do before you can reinstall this product again.
You will want to go to http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=roads001 and download the
product, request your replacement license keys, for you WILL need that again to install the
software.
Once you have done that, here’s the steps you are going to want to follow:

1.  Copy rd905240.XXX from FS2004 into FSX first.
1a.  Run USA Roads Set up.
2.  Point USA Roads installer towards YOUR FS X location.
3.  Click the button to continue installation.
4.  When you first run the configuration, you might get an error message, saying that it can not
find a file needed.  Click on ignore.
5.  When you load up flight simulator X, you will want to go to your scenery library folder.
6.   You will want to add the following areas to your scenery library:
USACAII USACAMaj USAEALL USAEMaj USAWALL USAWMAJ
7.  This will then have the sim rebuild the database files.  Next time you load up flight simulator,
your new roads will be visible again! Enjoy using USA Roads and giving this product a new system
life.

I’ll have some screen shots up later in the week for it, so you will be able to truly see how it is with
them.
USA Roads in FS X!
Flight Scenery Flight Zone 01
Rhode Island into FS X!
Get those old planes to work in FS X.  Yes, that’s right - you heard me - get those old planes to
work in FS X - NOW!
Well, you might say - “Sounds great, but what do I do?” Well, thanks to some one online who
was able to help me, I am now able to help you.  That person by the way is Dave, who is from
Houston, who had sent me how to install the Flight1 Pilatus PC 12 so it would work in FS X.  I
must say I thought it would seem rather lengthy to do, but it’s not. It’s a piece of cake, and hey -
if I can do it, anyone can do it.  I have sense been able to get my older Flight 1 Dreamfleet Cessna
310 to work successfully, being fully textured inside and out, and it flies like a dream.  I plan on
doing this now with my Piper Archer from Flight 1, along with some of my other aircraft that I
owned before.  Any way, here’s how you do it.
You WILL need to have FS2004 installed on your computer still, so that you may be able to
copy the contents of the folders over.  I found it best to use the default installation point, which
was the main folder of FS 9.  Ready? Here goes! You will want to grab a pen and paper for this
one for sure.

1.  Get your old key files back from Flight1.  You can go to http://www.flight1.com and under
support, you will want to click on get replacement keys.  If you need your order numbers, which
probably most of us will, you will want to get those as well.  You can get them by requesting your
order number under the lost order numbers link on the request key page.
2.  You will install the product to your main folder of FS 9.  For example, I’m using Flight 1’s
Cessna 310.  Install into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2004.
3.  You will then want to copy - yes that’s right, copy, not cut, the main Cessna 310 folder over to
the Sim Objects Airplanes folder in FS X.  You might want to have 2 windows open while you do
this on the desk top.
4.  After you have done so, you will then want to go back to your FS 9 folder and go the main
Textures folder.  This is not the Scenery texture folder - it is the main folder.
5.  You will then want to look for files that begin with df310 - again, by my example.
6.  Right click and highlight those textures. You will then want to select Copy, and paste them into
both aircraft texture folders directly.
7.  In order to get the plane to show up with a plane and a question mark picture to select it, you
must first open up the .CFG file, and copy and paste in the following lines from another Microsoft
aircraft what you will want to put in is the following: ui_manufacturer=Flight One and DreamFleet
ui_type=Cessna 310
ui_variation=2-Tone Blue: Authentic livery
ui_typerole=twin engine prop
ui_createdby=Flight 1 Softwrare
7.  Start up Flight sim, then select the 310, and enjoy! You’re all set to go.  Looks like a beauty
doesn’t she? You will want to follow those steps with all the other aricraft that have missing
textures.  That should be the Theory for all of them!

Thanks again Dave for letting me know this, I would have never have figured it out, and would
have waited and waited for an update.  At least now, I don’t have to and the flight sim world
doesn’t either - ouch - that’s gonna hurt some one…..except maybe for the possibilities if all the
gauges don’t work properly.
